Ryan Francis has it all–great job, wonderful wife, beautiful child–and he loves posting photos of his perfect life on social media. Until the night his friend Blake asks him to break into a woman’s home to retrieve incriminating items that implicate Blake in an affair. Ryan refuses to help, but when Blake threatens to reveal Ryan’s darkest secret–which could jeopardize everything in Ryan’s life–Ryan has no choice but to honor Blake’s request.
When he arrives at the woman’s home, Ryan is shocked to find her dead–and just as shocked to realize he knows her. Then his phone chimes, revealing a Facebook friend request from the woman. With police sirens rapidly approaching, Ryan flees, wondering why his friend was setting him up for murder.
Determined to keep his life intact and to clear his name, Ryan must find the real murderer–but solving the crime may lead him closer to home than he ever could have imagined.
WOW you guys! The Request by David Bell is a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing, and I really mean that! It was nonstop action the entire time, and I was absolutely GLUED to the audio. Tristan Morris is the narrator and I thought he did a fine job, he sounded like I thought Ryan would which was also a bonus. Ryan was a bit of a frustrating character (go figure), but I enjoyed his viewpoint and spent the entire book wondering what would happen and how everything would be tied together. This was a binge-read and definitely something you can read in one day. I listened to almost all of the audio in one because once I started I was hooked.
I love Bell’s writing style and The Request is jam-packed full of twists and turns. I can’t say I loved any of the characters all that much, but that didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book, and I loved how entertaining it was. There are many times I laughed out loud at something, and I always appreciate when an author can make me laugh during a thriller.
I don’t want to say a whole lot about the book because I think it would be a great one to go into mostly blind, but you won’t go wrong either reading it or doing the audio. There are tons of really short chapters which was a major plus for me, and The Request is a great getaway from everyday life! I can’t wait to read more from Bell and plan on getting to others of his very soon.
Thank you to Get Red PR and the publisher for providing me with an advance review copy of this book. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
