Genre: Adult Fiction / Romance

Blurb

The author of the novel The Bucket List returns with a witty and heartfelt romantic comedy featuring a wedding planner, her unexpected business partner, and their coworkers in a series of linked love stories—perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Casey McQuiston.

For the past twenty years, Liv and Eliot Goldenhorn have run In Love in New York, Brooklyn’s beloved wedding-planning business. When Eliot dies unexpectedly, he even more unexpectedly leaves half of the business to his younger, blonder girlfriend, Savannah. Liv and Savannah are not a match made in heaven, to say the least. But what starts as a personal and professional nightmare transforms into something even savvy, cynical Liv Goldenhorn couldn’t begin to imagine.

It Had to Be You cleverly unites Liv, Savannah, and couples as diverse and unique as New York City itself, in a joyous Love-Actually-style braided narrative. The result is a smart, modern love story that truly speaks to our times. Second chances, secret romance, and steamy soul mates are front and center in this sexy, tender, and utterly charming rom-com.

My Thoughts

Words are almost not enough to describe how much I absolutely ADORED reading It Had to Be You by Georgia Clark. It made me laugh and cry in equal measure, and while there are some sad moments this is overall a very heartwarming and optimistic read. It gave me serious Valentine’s DayNew Year’s Eve, and Mother’s Day movie vibes, and it was just like reading a book form of one of them. If you are familiar with any of these movies and love them as much as I do, you will understand what I mean and love this book as well. I loved all of the different characters and their different stories, plus how they end up connecting in the novel. So many elements to love, and I think this NEEDS to be a movie. I would love to watch it play out on the big screen and it would definitely be something I would watch again and again.

There isn’t much steam in the book, but that was fine by me, and I loved the romance there was. If you want a story that will make your heart swell, make you laugh-out-loud, and have a few *gasp* moments, It Had to Be You is the ONE for you, see what I did there? I also loved the representation in the novel and the way Clark handles all topics with directness and care. She created such vivid characters and made me want to be friends with every single one of them. She also mixes a lot of troupes, and I think it is impossible to pick my favorite one. There are a lot of characters and storylines which I know confused some readers, but luckily I had no issues at all. I am definitely going to be buying a finished copy of It Had to Be You, and even though I rarely do rereads, this is going to be one of those books where I do. I’m so happy I have other books of Clark’s that I can read now, and I highly recommend this to romcom lovers who are a fan of the movies I mentioned!
